Summertime, summertime

So … summertime. I love it. As a kid, I spent summers reading. As in nonstop, around the clock reading–one wonderful summer I counted reading 125 books in two weeks. These days, I still feel like I should spend most of my summer catching up on my reading list. But I don’t dig into the serious literature reading during the summer: it’s strictly pleasure stuff. Here are the standouts on m pleasure reading so far this summer:

  • No Hero, by Jonathan Wood
  • Book of Shadows, by Alexandra Sokoloff
  • City of the Lost, by Stephen Blackmoore

They were all fun, a little dark, and a blast to read. But now I’m hungry for more! Any book recommendations out there? What are you reading this summer?

I’m not sure yet if I recommend this, but I’m half-way through Scalzi’s
Agent to the Stars, about a Hollywood agent representing smelly slimy
amoeboid aliens who want to introduce themselves to the human race.

I do recommend some recent reads though, including Chabon’s Gentlemen of
the Road, about a large African and a skinny Frankish Jewish
swashbuckler/scoundrel, any of Robert Bennett’s three novels (esp. The
Troupe), and China Mieville’s Embassytown. They’ve all been tasty
    reads!

Smelly aliens might just be the perfect summer read!

Finished it, and I do recommend it! Think of aliens who communicate via farts. It’s humorous SF, not super deep but a lot of fun, and definitely doesn’t take itself too seriously.
