We are the Inkpunks

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Inkpunks website with this, the inaugural post, to introduce ourselves and outline our mission here.

What can I say about my fellow Inkpunks? Amongst us we have Clarion graduates, editors, podcasters and published authors. We have wide spread interests, varying backgrounds and different passions. Call it fate, call it destiny, but we’ve successfully come together as a close knit tribe of unique individuals. I can tell you, I feel the pressure of speaking for the collective in this first post. To paraphrase Anthony Michael Hall, I’d be crazy to write who we think we are. What we’ve found out, is each one of us is a writer, an editor, a motivator, a creative mind and a critique partner.

Our greatest asset is each other. We support, cheer, listen and uplift one another on a regular basis. When I mention this to other writers, they immediately express the desire to have a similar support group. Now you can. We want to share the things we learn along our own journeys and from those wiser and more established than us.

We don’t claim to know it all, or any of it, to be honest. What we do know is we have the passion, the drive and the backing to be the best we possibly can be. With this website, we hope to share that with you. Our wish is for you to return often (new posts every Tuesday and Friday!) to be inspired, enlightened, entertained and most of all, to be uplifted in your writing journey.

We look forward to getting to know you.

All of this started for me with a chance meeting at last year’s World Fantasy Convention. Fighting shyness and ‘imposter syndrome,” I struck up a conversation with the lovely, pink-haired lady sharing my elevator–Christie Yant. She kindly introduced me (in real-life) to fellow inkpunks Sandra Wickham, John Remy, and Morgan Dempsey, and (online) to Adam Israel and Wendy Wagner, as well as many other, amazing people.

I feel extremely lucky both to be part of the inkpunks and the larger writing community on Twitter. Over the last several months I have benefited greatly from their support, encouragement, and advice–things every writer can sorely use.

Here at inkpunks we hope to foster a welcoming and supportive community, and hope you’ll join us!

I started following Christie Yant on Twitter while I was scanning tweets about the World Fantasy Con. She seemed incredibly nice, and then when Orycon (our local, Portland, OR SF/F convention) came around, Christie told me to say ‘hi’ to Sandra Wickham while I was there. I had no idea who Sandra was, but she happened to be at the first panel I attended! We struck up an instant friendship, which was cemented by our trip to the World Horror Convention in the UK.

Christie introduced me to all the Inkpunks. I owe her a huge debt of gratitude, because I don’t know what I would do without them! They are my tribe.

I’m so excited about this project. It’s going to be a great way to spread the wonderful community feeling we’ve got.
